Industrial & Chemical

Typically we don’t think of paint, adhesives and industrial supplies as delicate substances. They’re meant to withstand significant cosmetic and structural wear-and-tear in manufacturing, healthcare and retail facilities. During the shipping cycle and at transshipment points, however, these products are surprisingly vulnerable to sustained extremely cold and freezing temperatures because of their water content. Without protective product insulation, prolonged delays in shipment can result in these products’ becoming frozen, damage to the consistency of the product after thawing, and label damage due to condensation. All these factors may result in product returns from distributors and retailers.

Issues Shipping Paint In Winter Months

Because latex paint is water based, it will freeze just like water. Oil-based paint also freezes, but at a lower temperature. For both water- and oil-based paints, freezing destroys the paint’s emulsion, resulting in a change of consistency – lumps and ropiness, for example – after thawing, which stirring may not be able to fix.

The solution is Protek Cargo’s SureTemp® Elite-Performance Thermal Pallet Cover.

In the open air, pallets and their contents can heat up through solar radiation. Ambient temperatures - both outdoors and indoors - that are higher than the minimum temperature specified for a product can also destroy product efficacy. Similarly, ambient temperatures - both outdoors and indoors - that are lower than the minimum temperature specified for a product can cause the product to become ineffective.

To protect industrial products in transit, thermal pallet covers act as barriers, decreasing the rate of temperature change. A cover with the least amount of emissivity - one that best inhibits energy transfer - offers the highest level of protection and significantly reduces the risk of temperature excursions, thereby helping ensure that the products arrive at their destination intact and with no loss of efficacy.
