When it comes to safely shipping products, few people argue with the necessity of good insulated packaging for perishables like fruit, alcohol or delicate products such as pharmaceuticals. However, it’s not just organic products that sometimes need to be protected from temperature changes.
As hard as it may be to believe in some cases, some of the hardiest industrial compounds that are relied on must also be protected from dramatic temperature shifts before they arrive at industrial or construction sites to be used.
Vulnerable Before Deployment
Paint, adhesives, and other industrial supplies are typically considered products that stand the test of time. Once paint is on a wall or an adhesive has been used to bond two pieces together, a proper job can last for years, or even a lifetime, without needing to be repaired or addressed.
However, before professionals get to the stage where they are using these products in their final form, they are still stored away as liquids. In that state, they can be just—or more—vulnerable to shifts in temperature as fruit or medication if the paint is stored in too cold an environment. Paint in its liquid form can freeze just as easily as other fluids, and once it does, it may no longer be reliable for use. This is even more true for adhesives, which usually lose their bonding ability after freezing.
Delays Happen
This is where insulated packaging can be vital to preserving industrial compounds. There are times when a shipment experiences an unexpected delay. The weather has caused traffic jams; an accident has caused a delay in the arrival of a truck for pick up; a ship experiences a technical difficulty while unloading cargo and temporarily stops.
During these unexpected moments of transition, cargo can be left exposed to the elements, sometimes for minutes or even hours. Outside of a controlled environment, especially when shipping during the winter, these unexpected delays can expose industrial products to temperature spikes severe enough to compromise the quality of these compounds. Insulated packaging, however, can play a big role in preserving these products. They help retain these products’ original, desired shipping temperature for long periods without requiring an HVAC system to maintain temperature.
Insulated packaging, as a precaution, ensures that even if there are unexpected delays in the logistics chain, industrial products will still arrive safely and in the condition, they need to be for professionals to rely on and get the results they want out of their work.
