You’ve Options For Bubble Layer Protection When It Comes To Shipping

It’s not just bigger shipping jobs that can benefit from temperature protection. Even small businesses that rely a lot on shipping their products can reap huge benefits from investing in such systems, like double bubble foil insulation. But what is this, and how can it help a smaller business?

Small Packages Still Need Protection

If your business sends temperature-sensitive products directly to customers, such as chocolate, beverages, or even specific types of pharmaceuticals or medication, then shipping tools like double bubble foil insulation may be important. Insulation layers can be an important component of preserving the condition of perishables because they help maintain the optimal shipping temperature even when not in an environmentally controlled storage system, such as a reefer unit for a truck.

Depending on the distances involved and the time to delivery, foil insulation can help keep products at their recommended temperature for days, making them ideal for certain types of shipping.

How It Works

This type of insulation comes in two formats: a single layer of bubble foil and a double bubble foil insulation layer. Both of them work the same way, with air bubbles covered in a metalized layer. The air bubble acts as a protective layer, preventing outside heat from seeping into the product. The metalized surface acts as a radiant barrier. Under normal circumstances, things heat up when they are exposed to sources of heat that radiate from a central source, like the sun.

However, with a radiant barrier, such as metalized foil, this reflects radiant heat sources rather than absorbing them. This means that even if unforeseen events, such as a shipping delay, leave products out of a refrigerated environment and exposed to the sun, awaiting loading for the next leg of the shipping journey, those products will not heat up excessively due to exposure, and may only experience a temperature change of a few degrees or less.

Picking The Right One

Businesses have a choice between single bubble and double bubble foil insulation layers. As to be expected, the double bubble layer is the more expensive investment. However, depending on your shipping needs, it may not be required, such as shipping overnight or around town. Its thinner layer can also be useful when shipping in volume, as it occupies less space.
