Whenever you are discussing the shipping of perishable, temperature-sensitive products, it is important to understand the ways that heat moves through space or “heat transfer” as it is more technically referred to. It is important that you are aware of this because it helps you determine the type of insulation you need when shipping heat-sensitive products. The 3 types of heat transfer include:
- Conductive heat transfer – occurs when two surfaces come into contact with one another. An example of this is the hot handle on a sauce pan or skillet. Until your hand comes into contact with it, you don’t feel any heat.
- Convective heat transfer – this is the type of heat transfer that we are most knowledgeable of. It is the way in which heat is transferred into an open space via forced air heating. As air moves over a heating element, it rises in temperature and expands throughout space.
- Radiant heat transfer – in this form, the air does not slow down the movement of heat through a space and is only felt when another surface is struck by the wave of energy (heat). The result is that all of the surrounding surfaces achieve the same temperature.
Protek Cargo can provide several products that will help to insulate your temperature-sensitive shipments against heat transfer so that they reach their destination in the same condition as they were originally shipped. This includes our:
- Sure Temp Bubble Foil Blankets – a cost-effective alternative to the more traditional insulated cargo blankets
- Sure Temp Cargo Blankets – will cover and protect your products with minimal effort in the most extreme conditions
- Sure Temp Container Liners – these serve as a lining for an ocean container’s interior and protect your heat-sensitive products against condensation, moisture, and thermal shock by creating a hermetically-sealed environment
- Sure Temp Pallet Covers – whether you are shipping a single pallet or several, these covers are ideal and are based on a technology that is similar to the type used in our Sure Temp bubble foil blankets and cargo blankets
As the temperature-sensitive freight specialist of the shipping industry, Protek Cargo knows the importance of ensuring that your products arrive in the condition that your clients or customers expect. We can provide you with a more cost-effective alternative to temperature-sensitive shipments so that you do not have to incur the extreme costs of refrigerated containers or trailers and the high price of diesel fuel used in their operation.
