The Dangers Of Heat Spikes

The Dangers Of Heat SpikesIf you’ve ever climbed into a car in the summer, or really any sort of enclosed vehicle, then you’ve probably noticed something that was immediately obvious:  it’s a lot hotter on the inside.

In the case of a regular vehicle, the main culprit is the glass windows.  They allow the sun’s rays to enter the vehicle unhindered and warm the interior, and because the interior is closed off the air inside can’t escape and will grow warmer and warmer as the hours pass.

However, this phenomenon isn’t limited to interiors that sport large windows.  Any enclosed space that lacks either significant ventilation or significant insulation will turn into a kind of oven during a hot day.  Any solid surface exposed to sunlight will radiate heat both inwards and outwards, and while the wind will carry the outward heat away and keep things relatively cool, the inward heat is trapped and has nowhere to go until the night falls and the temperature falls.

Naturally, all this applies to whatever transportation needs your company relies on, whether it’s trucks, train cars, or cargo containers.  Unless the cargo space is heavily insulated, and usually it’s not, the internal temperature will generally spike several degrees higher than the temperature outside.  Even if you use white paint or a polished metal surface, deflecting radiation can only help the problem so far.

For many kinds of cargo, heat spikes aren’t particularly an issue, but then there’s perishable cargo like wine, chocolate, fruits, flowers, and other organic products.  Electronics and cosmetics are also sensitive to extreme temperatures.  The usual solution to this problem is insulated trucks with refrigeration units, but they can be costly to purchase, costly to maintain, and they tend to consume a lot of energy, which adds another persistent expense.

Fortunately, there is an alternative.  SureTemp container blankets can provide your cargo with all the insulation it needs, and they’re proven to resist even the worst spikes in temperature.  Blankets don’t add to the energy bill and they don’t have a chance of failure, plus SureTemp blankets can handle industrial applications for up to ten years.  Heat spikes can be bad for business depending on what needs hauling, but with SureTemp container blankets they won’t be anything to worry about at all.
