The Trouble With Floral Transportation

By September 1, 2015 No Comments

The Trouble With Floral TransportationFlowers are among the greatest treasures of nature.  Their bright colors and unique scents are designed to catch the attention of wandering insects, but their vivid designs appeal to humans as well, and their heady aromas are so pleasant that we use them for perfume.

Unfortunately, flowers are also fragile things.  If you let them get too hot, they wilt, if they get too cold, they die, and if they get too cramped, they lose their shape.  However it happens, flowers lose their appeal once they’ve left their prime, and this makes it difficult to transport them.

Whether it’s by truck, train, or cargo container, getting flowers to market is a tricky business.  In the first place, you need to pack them in sturdy wooden or cardboard boxes to ensure they don’t get crushed, and then you need to store them in temperature-controlled warehouses and containers.  The expense of maintaining a fleet of reefer trucks can quickly add up, especially during the hottest parts of summer and the coldest days of winter.

However, there are less expensive alternatives.  Here at ProtekCargo, we pride ourselves in creating industrial-strength blankets capable of resisting the strongest temperature spikes, both in hot weather and in cold.  Our SureTemp container blankets can keep a truck full of flowers at a safe, moderate temperature for days, and they do so without any need for costly refrigeration units.  SureTemp blankets can also take a lot more abuse before they stop working.

Container blankets also have the benefit of adapting to the space required.  Reefer containers and trucks control the temperature of the entire cargo space no matter how full it is and no matter how much of the cargo needs temperature regulation.  On the other hand, SureTemp container blankets can cover as much or as little of the cargo as you require.  We also offer SureTemp thermal pallet covers for when you only need to transport a small quantity or else you need thermal protection at every step along the way.

Flowers are wonders of nature, and with modern hothouses and transportation technology we’ve come to expect roses and tulips even in the depths of winter.  To fulfill these expectations, flowers need to be protected against the cold and snow that prevents them from growing out in the open.  And with the help of SureTemp cargo blankets, stocking the grocery stores and flower shops of New England and the Midwest doesn’t have to be as expensive a prospect as it sounds.
