There are some kinds of cargo that absolutely demand a constant temperature. Meats, certain dairy products, and just about anything that’s frozen are good examples. Fruits and vegetables can also go bad if they’re exposed to too much heat or cold, and flowers will wilt under similar conditions.
But then you have food that can take a bit more abuse, such as cheese, wine, and preserved meat. Then there are cosmetics, lotions, canned beverages, and electronics – while freezing temperatures and the scorching heat of a closed trailer on a hot day may spell bad news for these products, they can go through a wide range of temperatures without any ill effects.
Since not every cargo needs the same care and attention, it only makes sense that different loads should get different levels of attention. While meat and frozen foods require a reefer truck or trailer to safely transport them, things like electronics, beverages, and even fruits and flowers don’t necessarily need the expense of air conditioning to keep them safe over a long haul. Sometimes all you need is a blanket.
To keep cargo loads safe as inexpensively as possible, look no further than the SureTemp cargo blanket. Our woven blankets use hollow fibers in order to trap the maximum amount of air and aluminum foil surfaces which reflect outside radiation away. Every inch of our blankets is designed for durability and hard use, which means they’ll last through more than just a few runs.
To save even more money, consider using our SureTemp bubble blankets instead. These blankets are constructed out of aluminum and plastic, and they use air bubbles to protect your cargo instead of finely manufactured fibers. Although the bubble blankets aren’t as effective as our fiber blankets, they can still protect cargo that doesn’t care too much about temperature changes.
You can also mix and match cargo types by using our pallet covers. We designed these blankets specifically to cover the contents of just one pallet at a time, making it easy to throw in a single small load of perishables in a way that keeps them safe without having to bring in a reefer vehicle just for the sake of a few items.
Blankets can’t replace A/C units completely, not so long as people are shipping extremely sensitive cargo, but at the same time A/C units shouldn’t replace blankets, either. A good industrial blanket can keep its cargo safe from excess heat and cold, and it does so at a fraction of the cost of a reefer.
