Are Your Shipments Protected From These Four Threats?

By March 11, 2025 No Comments

When you’re shipping products to a retail, or even direct to consumer destination, it’s critical for those goods to arrive in good condition. Thermal quilt insulation is one way to provide protection, but businesses should be aware that good shipping means protecting goods from these four major factors:

Physical Damage

Of course, one of the first and most obvious forms of protection is physical. If products are physically damaged, they are of no use to a retailer, or a customer. Thermal quilt insulation adds another, softer layer of protection that can cushion products from jostling, bumping, and other types of impact.

Moisture

Moisture protection can be critical depending on the type of product being shipped. Retail electronics, for example, are not only sensitive to temperature, but the introduction of moisture can render them completely non-functional should moisture occur in a vulnerable system. Moisture introduced into certain types of foods and beverages, such as wine, can impact the flavor, or even accelerate the process of rotting—moisture results from sizable amounts of exterior air penetrating packaging, something that thermal quilt insulation can prevent.

Sunlight

Another risk that can have serious negative effects on various types of products is ultraviolet radiation, or, more commonly, sunlight. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can have two major effects, the most obvious being a potential rise in temperature. However, even without the prospect of added heat, ultraviolet radiation can impact products in a variety of ways. With wine, for instance, UV radiation can cause a chemical reaction in the riboflavin and amino acids that can change the flavor of the wine, and not for the better. Certain medications are photosensitive, and prolonged exposure to sunlight can shorten their lifespan and reduce their efficacy.

Temperature Change

Here’s the primary area where things like thermal quilt insulation excel. If a product is temperature sensitive, any sustained exposure to temperatures beyond the recommended range can damage it. This can be as minor as fruit and vegetables looking more haggard, rotted, and unsightly or as critical as vaccines no longer working as intended. Temperature-sensitive products must be protected by something that preserves their optimal shipping temperature. Thermal quilt insulation ensures that the shipping temperature is retained with the products for as long as possible, while resisting the exterior temperature.
