Moving beverages from one part of the country to another—or even one continent to another—might seem like a pretty straightforward job. In most cases, beverages will come in some kind mass produced packaging, sometimes the more delicate “drink boxes” that are softer, other times, they will be in bottled or canned form, which can be a bit hardier, and these are usually packed in their own crates.
But the issue with beverages is that the content itself makes this type of shipment extremely vulnerable. Unlike most other forms of cargo, a beverage is pure liquid, and that means that beverages are subject to an entirely different set of physics. There may not be the same shelf-life as food, which can spoil or go off if it is left exposed to the elements for too long, but beverages can be dramatically affected by temperature changes.
The Goldilocks Zone
Beverages can suffer from being both too hot, or too cold. If you are shipping something during the winter season, it is absolutely critical to keep your beverages above freezing point, since, as liquids, they will freeze if left too long in these cold temperatures. Depending on the type of beverage being shipped this can either damage or completely ruin the entire shipment.
Conversely, allowing beverages to heat up is also potentially hazardous to the cargo. Beverages exposed to long, sustained periods of heat can lose their carbonation, or spoil depending on the type of beverage, and this is especially hazardous because of the containers that may be used for beverages. Metallic cans and glass bottles can take on and retain both hot and cold temperatures which can have lingering effects on the cargo as it travels.
In order for beverages to arrive safely at their destination, they need to be in that ideal “goldilocks zone” that is “just right” and neither too hot nor too cold.
Passive Temperature Control Is The Answer
Passive Temperature Control is a means through which the containers themselves are lined with temperature resistant materials that can retain the original shipping temperature to protect the contents within. This repels both a rise and fall in temperature, and it does it through a combination of careful design and judicious selection and construction of materials so it doesn’t require an active, powered climate control system to achieve environmental stability.
Through the use of thermal cargo blankets, thermal pallet covers and other SureTemp container products, you can preserve beverages against harmful variations in temperature regardless of whether a shipment is going from south to north in the wrong season, or from one part of the planet to the other side. It’s all thanks to a keen understanding of heat distribution, and insulation techniques. And it means that our products can provide constant, passive temperature control that doesn’t require the same maintenance or expense of a power solution.
Beverages are an important part of business and everyday life. Our SureTemp products ensure that they are ready to be used for both.
