In the past, businesses that wanted to ship small amounts of cargo that required temperature maintenance had few options. They either needed to pay the significant cost to have a “reefer” or refrigerated container to carry a small freight load or combine their shipment with others that would use a reefer but also didn’t take up the entire container space. Today, however, smaller batches of shipments have many more alternatives, and one of the most cost-effective is insulated box liners.
How It Works
Insulated box liners are either a single or double layer of thermal protection. The liner is made with either metal film or pure aluminum, depending on the product used. This creates a soft, protective layer that is flexible enough to fit products like food, pharmaceuticals, or others and then neatly seals, trapping the air so that it can be folded or shaped to the depth and dimensions of the lid.
This means that ordinary cardboard boxes can now be used for shipping even temperature-sensitive products if the shipping duration is short, such as for the delivery of meal kits. By trapping the air inside and maintaining the initial packing temperature. This means the contents don’t require cooling from an active refrigeration system such as a reefer.
Protective Layers
Insulated box liners provide multiple levels of protection. The liner is soft and provides a cushion for products placed inside, ensuring a safe journey with decreased risk of physical damage to products. However, the layers of the film also provide critical protection against moisture, preventing condensation and other forms of water from entering the box and compromising the contents, which can be especially important with food products.
Lastly, the insulated box liners act as a barrier inside and outside. When packed, the initial temperature of the products is retained by the liner, circulating that cool air throughout the package instead of eventually rising. In the same way, the metal or aluminum film of the outer layer is a shield against both sunlight and the radiant heat from the air that normally tries to get into every space that is cooler in temperature.
With insulated box liners, businesses can ship smaller packages without needing a special box or paying for the cost of a refrigerated unit for shipping. For short-duration shipping of smaller loads, this is the perfect way to ship and save while satisfying consumer or retail partner needs.
