Size Is Important

By May 20, 2025 No Comments

Cold chain packaging is essential when you’re sending temperature-sensitive products to any destination. With the right protection, products that must remain chilled or frozen are prevented from rising in temperature, while products that must remain warm are prevented from cooling down. However, a crucial component of cold chain packaging is being able to assess your needs correctly. Your best chance of successful shipping comes from being able to understand and plan for the size of the shipment you are sending.

Choices cover a variety of requirements, including:

Box Liners

For smaller packages that are going directly to a consumer, or simply a very small shipment to a retailer, insulated packaging is available for individual boxes. This means that even the smallest of shipments can still enjoy the protection of passive temperature protection, even if the product itself is not in a reefer unit. Food products in particular, such as meal kits that may contain fresh produce or raw ingredients like meat, are the biggest beneficiaries of this size of temperature protection.

Pallet Covers

For more standard-sized shipments that can be placed on cargo pallets, pallet covers are available. These are much larger “insulated blankets” that are designed to withstand a range of different environments, from warehouses to train cars, truck trailers, and even aircraft. Additionally, pallet covers can also be enhanced with pallet bases that can protect the bottom of shipments from direct contact with the pallets themselves, as well as any potential moisture or temperature variance factors the pallets can bring into the equation.

Container Liners

Finally, one of the more economical shipping solutions is available if you have enough product that justifies investing in the use of an entire shipping container or truck trailer to transport them. In this case, container liners are available that can be applied to the inside of the whole cargo container, covering the top, bottom, sides, front, and rear.

This is a particularly cost-effective solution as coverage of the entire container means you don’t have to protect each box or cargo pallet individually. Despite that, every single item in the container benefits from insulation and temperature retention, regardless of the temperature outside the container itself. Depending on the circumstances, the temperature can be maintained for days.
