Over the past couple years, an increasing number of companies have chosen ocean freight as their preferred shipping method. The industry has seen considerable growth as a result. Recently, a weekly containerized cargo service opened in the Port of Pensacola.
Shipments Between FL And Mexico
Port officials in the Port of Pensacola recently announced a new containerized cargo service that would run from the US port to the Port of Coatzacoalcos, located in Mexico. The move can be credited to World Direct Shipping, which also runs ocean freight routes from Port Manatee to Coatzacoalcos and Tuxpan.
Amy Miller, the Port of Pensacola Director, was ecstatic about the move. She was particularly excited because it gave the port, which is smaller in size, a chance to break into the containers industry. She said that the port would focus on smaller, niche container markets moving forward.
The shipments, which are set to begin February 1, mark the first time that the port has seen regular containerized cargo shipments. The fact that a smaller US port has become involved with container markets is indicative of the growth of the ocean freight industry. This growth is only expected to continue. World Direct Shipping already hopes to expand their Port of Pensacola line to an additional Mexican port, which will further drive domestic ocean freight growth.
Protecting Ocean Freight Shipments
While it was unannounced which niche markets the port plans to take part in, one of the industries they could do so with is the pharmaceutical industry. If a pharmaceutical shipment varies by just 4 degrees F, it could be completely ruined.
As companies look to use ocean freight as a more viable option, it’s important for them to consider all methods to protect their shipments. Insulating pallet covers are a great way to provide an extra layer of protection while minimizing temperature excursions, especially for shipments with longer travel times.
